Protecting Water Supply Sources

“When drinking water think of its source.” -Chinese proverb

Source water protection has always been important.  Now that the region’s drinking water system relies on alternative supplies such as river water, it’s even more important that the sources of water are protected.  Local governments and Tampa Bay Water are working to develop and implement measures to protect the environment and drinking water supply.

As part of Tampa Bay Water’s Long-Term Water Supply Planning Process, residents are asked to help identify and weight key activities that local governments and Tampa Bay Water should be participating in to protect our regional water supply sources.  Source water protection mechanisms include:

• Public Information and Education
• Protective Policies and Regulations
• Land Acquisitions Programs
• Best Management Practices
• Local Watershed Protection Actions
